Blood Thinner List


*Please do not stop taking your medications without speaking to your doctor or a nurse*


The following meds are blood thinners and should be stopped prior to your surgery as directed by the prescribing physician:


  • Plavix (Clopidogrel)
  • Eliquis (Apixaban)
  • Xarelto (Rivaroxaban)
  • Pradaxa (Dabigatran)
  • Coumadin/ Jantoven (Warfarin)
  • Savaysa (Edoxaban)
  • Effient (Prasugrel)
  • Brilinta (Ticagrelor)


The following medications must be stopped 10 days prior to your surgery:


  • Aspirin, Aspirin products
  • Advil
  • Aleve
  • Ibuprofen
  • Motrin
  • Fish Oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Multivitamins
  • Omega
  • Lovaza
  • Ocuvite
  • Naproxen
  • Pepto Bismol
  • ALL NSAIDS (Celebrex, Meloxicam, Ketorolac, Etodolac, Arthrotec)





  • Must continue vitamins that are given for the treatment of anemia or that are given to counteract a diuretic.
